Remote Simultaneous Interpreting

A Remote Simultaneous Interpreting is when a professional language expert interprets,  from a remote location, the meaning of a speaker’s message orally in another language to listeners who do not understand the presenter’s language.

Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Tips

1. Set the Stage

→ Eliminate background noise and interference.

Make sure the interpreter is in a quiet, uninterrupted space.

Turn off the doorbell, cell phones, alarm clocks.

Close windows and doors.

→Turn off all sound notifications (Skype, WhatsApp, emails, Slack, etc.)

→ Inform other people around you the time that you can’t be disturbed.

→ Be aware of pets.

→ Turn off all programs or apps not being used during the meeting, they use computer resources that can affect the quality of the video.

→ Lighting: Being able to see and be seen is critical, the visual component of a video interaction is limited when compared to face to face:

Be careful about bright backgrounds.

A window in front of you for good lighting is ideal.

Choose LED vs Incandescent.

→ Login 10-15 minutes ahead of time and test video and audio with participants.

2. Equipment

→ Download the platform KUDO or Zoom in advance on your computer or phone and know how to use it before engaging in video assignment

→ Use the Ethernet cable connected to your computer instead of WiFi.

→  Have a back up solution, such as laptop or tablet in case the computer has issues.

→ Use individual headsets with high quality microphones (directional microphones) and echo cancelling features.

→ Use microphones that can reproduce both high and low tones such as the ones used for speech recognition.

→ Install noise blocking panels in your office.

3. During Assignment:

→ For consecutive interpretation, the interpreter needs to do his/her introduction.

→ Establish Consent from parties before interaction starts.

→ When speaking, talk directly into the microphone from a distance of 30cm to 40cm.

→ Replicate eye contact by looking into the camera not at the video.

→ Mute the microphone when not speaking and avoid moving it or making extra noise.

Remote Simultaneous Interpretation for any audience

→ Document Sharing: Upload and distribute documents as your meeting unfolds.

→ Language Selector: Stream real-time language interpretation into your meetings, in any language.

→ Live Polls: Capture actionable insights from your audience, through instant polls and surveys.

→ Q&A: Allow your participants to ask questions using their own smart devices or computers.

→ Security: Audio and data flows secured through high-level encryption.

→ On-Demand Access: Unlimited access to all past events any time.

The importance of Remote Simultaneos Interpreting

Traditional interpretation requires time and money to configure and manage. For traditional interpretation, professional interpreters need to be on-site. Remote Simultaneous Interpretation does not require equipment and interpreters do not have to be on-site.
